The Festival of Alegría (the Spanish word for happiness) aims, as its main objective, to help engender a pleasant and festive atmosphere in which visitors can enjoy unforgettable experiences and moments in a context of cultural interaction, diversity, and artistic exchange.
Established in 2004, the Festival—the most important in Chaouen—is part of the dynamic of human development and enhancement of intangible heritage envisioned by his Majesty King Mohamed VI. The festival unites people around music and other modes of artistic expression, and is offered to both local and international audiences, with a view to encouraging unforgettable moments of happiness.
The festival, however, inspired by the blue magic of the mountains, goes beyond being a simple point of contact for musical fusion; it embraces the mission of seeing cultural development become a crucial engine for the future of the city. Chaouen's ambition is to become an essential part of a humanist bridge between Africa, the southern Mediterranean, and Latin America.
Alegria seeps into every square of Chaouen. Open to all audiences, all ages, and all strata of society, the Chaouen Festival is a paean to cultural diversity, artistic fusion, and good vibes at the height of each summer.
