The sunshine that benefits the region is one of the reasons that make playing golf so attractive in Tangier and Tetouan.
This is a sport which attracts more and more local players but also enthusiasts from abroad. Tangier is home to the first golf course in Morocco, one of the first in the Mediterranean, and the second in Africa. This is the Royal Country Club; it was inaugurated in 1914 and has retained a somewhat British air ever since.
Other more modern courses have been created in Larache, with the Port Lixus Larache Royal Golf Course, but also in Tetouan, with the Cabo Negro Golf Club, near Mdiq. Enthusiasts in Asilah will find a golf course in that town, and a new course is under construction in the vicinity of the Diplomatic Forest, between Tangier and Asilah.
Whether they are made up of gentle hills or bordered by hedges or close to the sea, the region's offerings in terms of golf courses is astonishing in terms of both the number and variety of the courses.
